Chelsea Girl

Hotel Chelsea. Home to those that defined a generation, a culture, a revolution amongst art, music, literature and theatre. Anyone who has read Patti Smith's book Just Kids will tell you about how this institution housed the most creative minds as they took solace from the streets of New York City. Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorp, Janis Joplin, Jack Kerouac, William S Burroughs, Jean-Paul Satre, Edith Piaf, Tennessee Williams, Bob Dylan, Stanley Kubrick, Iggy Pop, Leonard Cohen, Sid Vicious, Nancy Spurgen, Allen Ginsberg, Joni Mitchell and Andy Warhol, just to name a few, roamed the corridors of this iconic hotel creating and inspiring one another.

Unfortunately the Chelsea closed its doors last year after it was sold to a high end developer so I was unable to go inside the walls. However just being outside, being where they were, where they all walked, was just such an awe inspiring moment.
